Maserati MSG Making Moves

Formula E silly season continues in true Formula E style with the team bringing on two new drivers - former Formula E Champion Stoffel Vandoorne and former NEOM Mclaren driver Jake Hughes.

The Italian team announced that would be parting ways with it’s driver line up from 2024’s Season 10 with Maximillian Guenther and rookie Jehan Daruvala out to find new seats for the upcoming 2024-25 campaign.

Vandoorne joining the Masterati MSG team means he remains within the Stellantis brand - having just vacated the seat at DS Penske which it’s anticipated Maximillian Guenther will fill.

Jake Hughes announced his exit from NEOM McLaren early on Monday morning and just a few hours later, in true Formula E style was announced at Maserati a couple of hours through a rather comedic post featuring his future teammate Vandoorne.

Whilst this is the first time either driver has driven for Maserati MSG Racing, it’s team familiar to both drivers - with Vandoorne having the DS Penske connection and previously shared a powertrain with the team back when he was at Mercedes and Hughes having worked with the team prior to his NEOM Mclaren days as the reserve driver for the then named Venturi racing.

It is understood that whilst the Vandoorne move was planned and well known, McLaren had attempted to retain Hughes but both sides couldn’t come to an agreement with Nissan also showing an interest in the British driver. McLaren is now expected to promote current test and reserve driver Taylor Barnard to the seat which Hughes has vacated.

Stoffel and Jake will make their first appearance with their new team at Pre-Season testing in Valencia from 4-7 November 2024 ahead of the season 11 opener in São Paulo, Brazil on 7 December 2024 to kick start the 2024-25 season!
