FanAmp Fan Guide: F1 at Home

FanAmp is a community hub for Formula 1 fans. That means we give F1 fans one place - one home - for their complete fan experience before, during, and after every race. They use it to connect with fans and F1 creators from around the world, to stay up-to-date with news, compete for points and prizes with race predictions, access race essentials when they’re heading to the track, and so much more.

FanAmp and Pit Lane Magazine have teamed up to provide comprehensive guides for Formula 1 and motorsport fans. We want to help you learn how to fan!

An interest in Formula 1 is most likely how you landed on this page… maybe you stumbled upon something on social media, watched Drive to Survive on Netflix, or somehow heard about the Lewis Hamilton x Ferrari News. Regardless of how you discovered Formula 1, streaming all of the races, qualifying sessions, sprints, practice sessions, making other F1 friends, attending races (need I go on?) are all the next logical steps! Let’s talk through how to be a Formula 1 fan at home - no matter where you are in the world!

How to Stream Races

The best way to keep up with the F1 season is to watch all of the on track action! While watching popular sports in your country may seem like a streamlined process, finding out where to watch Formula 1 depending on your country can actually be an endeavor in itself. Don’t worry, we compiled the list of the best places to watch from the comfort of your couch!

F1 TV

F1 TV is the official app and website that streams Formula 1 races to the world. F1 TV is the home of Formula 1 races and sessions as well as pre- and post- race live shows, data analysis, documentaries, and archive of F1 races.

F1 TV has two offerings:  In the United States pricing is: Standard ($29.99 per year) and Pro ($89.99 per year). It is offered in the US, the Netherlands, Austria, Mexico, and various countries around the world.

F1 TV Pro is the recommended subscription and offers:

  • Live Race Coverage including practice sessions, qualifying, sprint races, and the race itself including pre- and post- shows.

  • Multiple Camera Angles. You can switch between different camera angles of the race, parts of the track, and driver views to customize your experience.

  • Live Data and Statistics. You can also listen to the on track action while viewing the real - time lap data, team communications and track conditions.

  • On-Demand Replays. Watch any session from the current season and decades of past F1 races.

  • Exclusive content including documentaries, behind the scenes content, and interviews.

  • Watch support and feeder series including F1 Academy, F2, F3, and F4

Cable

The most straight-forward way in many countries to watch a live sporting event is to simply turn on the TV and tune into your most popular sports channel. For example: in the United States, you can watch almost every sport on ESPN. With that being said, only some races appear on some channels in every country…. Complicated, right?

Luckily we’ve compiled a list to help guide you.

What channel shows F1 in the US?

ESPN is the hub for all sports in the United States. While they are new to the Formula 1 broadcasting game, last year ESPN and ESPN affiliates aired all 23 races on the calendar. Out of the 23, 18 were aired on ABC or ESPN and the remaining 5 on ESPN2.

ESPN has also begun to offer additional Formula 1 content throughout the season. Their F1 coverage includes a dedicated site for F1 with behind the scenes race coverage and interviews. They have also created a podcast called “Unlapped” on Youtube.

For the complete lists of which ESPN channels will stream all 24 races this year, check out their schedule page.

What channel shows F1 outside of the US?

Sky Sports F1 is one of the most popular news, broadcasting and streaming sites for all of F1, but can only be accessed in the UK and Europe. Sky Sports F1 functions similarly to F1TV with a paid subscription to stream all racing content either on their site or in their app. However, you do not need to pay monthly (although the monthly cost is £33.99)... Sky Sports offers a day pass to watch each Grand Prix for £11.99.

Sky does offer very exclusive F1 content, so if you are in a country or region where Sky Sports is available, this is definitely a great option to watch along with the F1 season!

Where can I watch F1 if I live somewhere else?

Thankfully, Formula 1 wants everyone to watch and they compiled a list of broadcasters worldwide that will stream the grand prix every race weekend. Use it to find your preferred provider.

How to follow the action and conversation with FanAmp

If you want to take your Formula 1 Fan experience just one step further, FanAmp is the app that you need. We are a community hub for Formula 1 fans. That means we give F1 fans one place for their complete fan experience before, during, and after every race. They use it to connect with fans and F1 creators from around the world, to stay up-to-date with news, compete for points and prizes with race predictions, access race essentials when they’re heading to the track, and so much more.

Find your Base (community)

Our singular goal is to help fans effortlessly connect with each other by streamlining your Formula 1 fan experience.

  • AND SO many more on the way!

Connect with other F1 Fans

Your trusty author is going to pipe in here for my own take at connecting with fans on FanAmp: I initially downloaded the app before the start of the 2023 season to connect with fans because NONE of my friends liked F1 at the time. This seems to be the case for so many people who download the app and join our communities.

NOTHING makes a race day more enjoyable than being able to react alongside others during a race, communicate back and forth about Ferrari pitting for the 4th time and retiring, and seeing Oscar Piastri’s first podium. Not only can you chat in the bases, but there is a live chat that runs during qualifying, sprints, and races that connects fans from all communities across the app.

The one thing that unites every person who watches Formula 1 is human connection, so even if you don’t have anyone to watch a race with… we have a community of fans ready and waiting for you to chat along.

**Author note: I am writing this article on the DAY of the Hamilton x Ferrari news, and chatting in the app today helped us all cope and celebrate.**

Play along

One extremely exciting part of FanAmp is that we play along with every Qualifying, Sprint and Race session. So what does that mean?

In the 24 hours before each session, you will open the app to see picks. These picks include the standard top 3/ podium, fastest lap, and move on to fun questions like “Will Daniel Ricciardo finish in the top 10?” “Will Logan Sargeant score points?” “Rain is forecasted, how many cars will DNF before lap 15?”

Correct answers = Points AND Points = exciting prizes throughout the season including team kits, merch from our partners… and maybe even a ticket to a race of your choosing. You can even get points for getting friends to download the app, updating your profile, and so much more!

Planning for and attending a race

Tickets

Tickets are naturally the most important part of your Grand Prix experience. There are three very important things to note when it comes to tickets:

  1. There are countlesssites to buy Grand Prix tickets - not all of them are legitimate or trustworthy.

  2. You can print your tickets, but most circuits will prefer digital tickets.

  3. Many tracks will not have cellphone service, or it will be limited.

Luckily FanAmp has a solution to all three of these dilemmas. You can purchase tickets for every race directly in FanAmp through P1Travel and save them to your FanAmp wallet (that can be accessed offline).

We put together another guide all about tickets, check it out here.

Track Maps and Guides

We have a handful of features that are intended for your time at the circuit including maps, comprehensive guides and much more!

When you’re in FanAmp, navigate to “more” in the bottom bar and click “Event Info”. From there you will be able to access track maps, the race weekend schedule, written articles covering everything you need to know such as pop-ups and events at the circuit.

Pro tip -  You can and SHOULD download the map and schedule from FanAmp because most circuits will have little to no cell reception!

Joining the in-person festivities (Local Bars and Meet-Ups)

If you don’t want to watch a race at home, and would much rather be surrounded by other F1 fans in your area, most large cities will have options for you! Your trusty author lives in New York City and on top of numerous bars that stream every race, there are many creators and F1 Fans around the city who host events as well!

Local bars & Event Sites

One of the easiest ways to come across a Formula 1 watch party is on Eventbrite, similar event sites (such as Posh), or even social media (Facebook). Use their search bar to type in “F1 watch party” or search for the specific grand prix you are looking to watch to find a list of ticketed and free events in your city. You’d be surprised at how many you can actually find! Formula 1 fans are everywhere!

On top of standard event sites, F1 content creators and podcasters 2Girls1Formula have taken the ‘finding a bar’ to watch the race a step further! For countless cities across the United States, they compiled a list of all of the bars, restaurants, and event venues that stream races! Check out their F1 Bar in Your City list!

F1 Arcade

F1 Arcade is simply one of the best experiences a Formula 1 fan can take advantage of throughout a race weekend. The star feature of F1 arcade are its walls lined with racing simulators that can be raced at multiple levels from novice to elite at a cost. This racing is paired with TVs set up around the room as well as high quality food and drinks made in house.

As of now there are two locations in London, UK with two United States locations arriving in 2024 in Boston, MA and Washington DC.

This race viewing experience is the closest you can get to attending an actual grand prix, surrounded by other fans, activities, games, and a full bar and menu. Although there are not many locations around the world - if you live near one, you must watch at least one race this season at F1 Arcade!

F1 Arcade

Houston F1

One of the most active communities of Formula 1 in the United States takes root in Houston, Texas. This group was created by a handful of F1 super fans who wanted to create a community to chat about races and watch each grand prix together at bars and restaurants around Houston.

Houston F1 has a Base in FanAmp where they advertise their meetups, chat about races, and plan motorsport events throughout the calendar year so check out their base on FanAmp.
