Who Is Liam Lawson And Is He Coming Back To F1?
The young driver had his F1 debut at the Dutch GP 2023 becoming the fourth driver for Alphatauri in 2023, filling in for Daniel Ricciardo who suffered a hand injury.
The 21 year old New Zealander has been part of the Red Bull family since 2019 and is no stranger to Formula 1 – the current Red Bull and Alphatauri (currently RB) reserve driver has completed the mandatory rookie free practice sessions for both teams.
He is also no stranger to current drivers on the grid – having competed alongside Oscar Piastri, Zhou Guanyu and Logan Sargeant in the lower series. He was, though, the youngest driver on the grid that weekend.
Away from F1, Lawson also concluded his Japanese Super Formula season at the end of October, finishing as runner up to Ritoma Miyata, but gained more valuable experience along the way.
As reported by Formula 1 Lawson explained:
“Because I've raced in most championships and I've even been in F1, I can't really go and do F2 again,” he said. “There'd be no point. I can't do Super Formula again. I could, but there's less benefit from doing it. So I think it's full focus on being reserve.
Is Liam Lawson Coming Back To F1?
As of March 3, 2024, there has been speculation about Liam Lawson's potential return to Formula 1. However, no official announcement has been made regarding his comeback to the pinnacle of motorsport. Fans and media continue to closely monitor developments surrounding the talented driver, who has left a mark in various racing categories. It remains to be seen whether Lawson will secure a seat in an F1 team in the upcoming seasons.
However, if he does get a Formula 1 seat, Liam is sure it will be through Red Bull Racing:
“I'm a Red Bull driver. If I ever get a chance in Formula 1, it'll be through Red Bull Racing. I think it would be Red Bull that give me my shot.”
